“It is now too late for the older generation. To create a better, happier world ... we should focus our energies on the younger generation.”

In response to His Holiness, early in 2008 JSG carried out a world-wide online survey to try to discover how the children of western Buddhists have experienced Buddhism. Their parents probably discovered Buddhism in the 70s and 80s and some helped establish Dharma centres in the west. Many brought up children in a Dharma environment, ‘the next generation of western Buddhists’ – perhaps ...

The survey was publicised to 7,000 Buddhist groups all over the world listed on the Buddhanet directory. It was carried out over 3 months. In all, 63 responses ( 0.9%) were received by the deadline date of 30th April.

Respondents were asked to give their age bracket, continent of residence and gender, and were given 16 questions of which they could answer whichever questions they liked.
