Buddha’s teachings are passed down through the millennia in an oral lineage from master to student.
This traditional Buddhist method of teachers passing on their knowledge accurately from generation to generation ensures the correct understanding is imparted from mind to mind, since learning from books and texts alone without a living teacher to tutor us is more likely to lead to the arisal of misinterpretation.
Now, our chief lineage-holder is His Holiness The Dalai Lama.
Our other teachers are those approved by His Holiness The Dalai Lama or those accredited by having learned from teachers or at institutions approved by him.
You will find many good examples of these, and their teachings, in Related Links and especially in the Teachings Archives which have been listed there.
